Coach Karl celebrating his victory with Precision coaches Joe Carbone, Chelen Reyes and Brian McLaughlin

The name “Precision Boxing and MMA” tells potential members a bit about what we offer, but it couldn’t possibly highlight the level of expertise and variety of combat styles that our coaches integrate into our Poughkeepsie MMA classes. For those who are interested in blending multiple styles and disciplines together, Coach Karl Nemeths classes cannot be missed. As an undefeated Muay Thai champion, undefeated mixed martial arts champion and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, Coach Karl Nemeth is known for his unpredictable and flashy kicks, however he can apply that same style and finesse to his punches, knees, and elbows! From years of sparring with Karl, I can attest to the efficacy of his techniques and the creativity that he puts into his striking. Watching Karl strike is like watching a hypnotic dance. He manipulates timing and distance with such mastery that his opponents don’t realize they’ve walked into a trap until it’s too late.

One of Coach Karls favorite techniques is the Showtime Punch. The cousin of the Showtime Kick, this fun move was made famous by Anthony “Showtime” Pettis when he fought Benson Henderson at WEC 53. This never before seen kick involved Pettis chasing Henderson as he backed up, jumping up, kicking off the cage wall into a head kick that landed flush, dropping Henderson. With additional finishes over Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, Michael Chiesa, Charles Oliveira, Donald Cerrone and many other household names, Anthony Pettis is widely regarded as one of the most exciting fighters in mixed martial arts.

An equally unpredictable striker, Coach Karl has landed many Showtime Kicks in his day, however he makes more frequent use of the Showtime Punch. Applied with the same concept and timing of the Showtime Kick, this technique involves using the wall to propel yourself forward while attacking your opponent. Here’s Coach Karl landing the Showtime Punch in a fight.

We brought in professional mixed martial artist and longtime Precision student Lindsey VanZandt to demonstrate this technique with Coach Karl. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, Invicta FC, Bellator and Rizin veteran; VanZandt is no stranger to slick and flashy striking. As Lindsey explains in the video below, she sets this technique up by allowing her opponent to believe that they have an avenue of escape. As the opponent is close to the wall, instead of cutting off the cage, she allows them to escape to their right as she cuts a 45° angle before pushing off the wall with her back foot. As she accelerates towards her opponent, she throws her cross; augmenting the power by using the wall. Watch the video below to see Lindsey explain the Showtime Punch in detail!

Both Karl and Lindsey have found success through implementing Precision’s techniques in their fights. The video about shows Lindsey breaking down the Showtime Punch, however both of these martial artists are just as creative and slick with their grappling as well! During his days as the Kaged Kombat champion, Karl was able to finish his opponent with a calf slicer (a rare leg submission) not once, but twice! Lindsey has wins both via submission and knockout, but perhaps most memorable was her rear-naked choke victory over up and coming Japanese prospect Rena Kubota. Coming in as the underdog, Lindsey put on a spectacular performance and ended up choking her opponent unconscious.
