Using your natural attributes will make you into a better fighter! These tricks are not strictly for taller or longer practitioners, but they make work better if you have a reach advantage!

The first trick covered in the video at the bottom of this post is the forearm frame. Frequently shorter fighters will push forward while moving their head to get past the reach of the longer fighter. This can be tough to deal with, especially if you’re backed up against a surface. Generally speaking, people will slip to the outside of the punch more often (as pictured above). As they do this, frame your forearm on their neck; preventing them from continuing forward. From here, quarter turn around them creating a favorable angle and fire your rear hand.

The second technique covered in the video at the bottom of this page is the cross grab. When you’re pressed up against the ropes/wall/surface, use your lead hand to reach across and hook their lead hand as pictured above. From here, pull them past you towards the wall as you step out around them; putting them on the wall and creating a great angle of attack.

The final technique covered in the video below is the step-out check hook, also known as the Soviet Check Hook. As they come forward with a right hand, step your lead foot out, bringing your head and body off-line as you fire your lead hook.
